EXPECTATIONS: Before we start this unit you should be very comfortable with the following:

Travel between stars takes a VERY long time

Traveling close to the speed of light involves some very interesting results

LEARNING GOALS -- At the conclusion of this part of the unit, I will be able to:

1. identify how scientists are actually looking for Extra-Terrestrial Life

2. identify/describe conditions required (we think!) for life to survivie and thrive on exoplanets

3. relate how artificial signals (such as radio) differ from natural signals

4. explain and address Fermi's Paradox

5. use the Drake Equation to guesstimate the number of Extra-Terrestrial civilizations in the Milky Way Galaxy

6. demonstrate understanding of the defining characteristic of a Type I, Type II and Type III civilization using the Kardashev Scale
